Annette Kuhn Essay Award

The journal Screen has just announced details of a new essay award, directed at early career researchers. Contributions to Projections would of course be eligible. Deadline for the inaugural award is 31 January 2015. Details below.

best wishes, Murray

Earlier this year, in recognition of Professor Kuhn’s outstanding contribution to Screen and her wider commitment to the development of screen studies and screen theory, the editors of Screen established the Annette Kuhn Essay award. £1,000 will be awarded annually to the author of the best debut article in film and television studies, as judged by the Screen editors and members of the journal’s editorial advisory board. The prize winner will be invited to attend the annual Screen conference to accept their award. While there are no requirements in terms of specific content or methodological approach (with the caveat that it should provide an original contribution to the theoretical or empirical exploration of screen media) the following criteria for selection apply:

it is the debut article, in any language, by the scholar
the publication date falls within the current calendar year (i.e. 2014)
the essay was peer-reviewed
the essay was published in an established academic journal
the essay is in English

The submission deadline for this year’s award is 31st January 2015. All entrants will be notified of the panel’s decision on their manuscript in May 2015, and the first award will be made at the Screen conference in 2015. Please send a pdf of the final published proof to screen@arts.gla.ac.uk, with details of where and when your article appeared.
