Stephen Prince elected SCSMI president

Dear members and friends of the Society for Cognitive Studies of the Moving Image,

On behalf of the Presidential Search Committee and the Board of Directors of SCSMI, I am pleased to announce that Stephen Prince has been elected president of SCSMI. His four-year term will begin on January 15, 2018.

Stephen has been a participating member of SCSMI for over twenty years. He hosted the 2010 conference in Virginia, served as editor of Projections: The Journal for Movies and Mind, and has been a long-time board member. As former president of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, he brings administrative experience to our organization. As you know, he is also a well-published film scholar with an international reputation.

In determining their votes, board members had a choice between two eminently qualified candidates, Stephen Prince and Todd Berliner. We would like to thank Todd for agreeing to allow himself to be nominated as a candidate, and for his willingness to serve the organization.

Finally, we should offer a word of thanks to Murray Smith, whose four-year term as president ends on January 14, 2018. He has served SCSMI admirably for the past four years, and the organization has benefited immensely from his leadership.

For now, it is good to know that we are in competent hands, and that members of SCSMI are committed to its future. I hope to see many of you at the next conference in beautiful  Bozeman, Montana, in June of 2018.

Sincerely,

Carl Plantinga

Chair, Presidential Search Committee

Committee Members: Ted Nannicelli, Johannes Riis, Margrethe Bruun Vaage
