Literary Universals + Film, Art, and the Third Culture – New York, Saturday 6 January

For those of you in or around New York this weekend, news of an event which may be of interest. Patrick Hogan – erstwhile SCSMI keynote speaker – has organized a panel on ‘Literary Universals’ at this year’s MLA conference, as part of his wider Literary Universals Project. The panel takes place on Saturday afternoon at the New York Hilton Midtown, Beekman, 5.15-6.30pm. Details available here and here. I will be a giving paper as part of the panel, drawing on my recent Film, Art, and the Third Culture, as well as this recent blog – ‘Smile Like You Mean It’ – which provides a very brief overview of the book, and one thread of argument within it.

All of this assuming that New York survives the ‘Bomb Cyclone‘ currently depositing large amounts of snow on it, not to mention the latest antics of the 45th President of the USA…
