PROJECTIONS – Call for book reviews

Projections is calling for expressions of interest from potential contributors to the Book Review section of the journal. Accepted contributions would be published in either issue 17.2 (summer 2023) or 17.3 (winter 2023).

Expressions of interest can take one of two forms:

  1. Recommend for review a title of likely interest to our readership
  2. Volunteer to review a title of likely interest to our readership

Expressions of interest will be considered in light of the journal’s statement of aims and scope: “Projections aims to integrate established traditions of analyzing media aesthetics with current research into perception, cognition, and emotion, according to frameworks supplied by philosophy of mind, phenomenology, psychology, and the cognitive-and neurosciences.”

Non-SCSMI members are welcome to suggest relevant monographs for review and/or volunteer to write a review. Submissions that advance SCSMI’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (https://scsmi-online.org/dei-statement) are also particularly welcome. So, please prompt your colleagues who are interested in the relationships between media and mind to contact us with an expression of interest.

Book reviews should not exceed 2000 words, including notes and references. Review essays, which discuss two recently published books on a related topic, should not exceed 5000 words. Please note that the Book Review section for each issue is limited to a maximum of 8000-9000 words, so available slots for reviews are limited (i.e., either four short reviews, or one long + one short review per issue).

Deadlines for the first draft of a review are:

  • Issue 17.2 – April 1, 2023
  • Issue 17.3 – August 1, 2023
